Cu-Sil Partial Denture
A Cu-Sil® partial denture is like a complete denture, but has holes in it for remaining teeth, and has a flexible silicone collar around those teeth. It is an option for someone who has very few remaining natural teeth and wants to save those teeth as long as possible. Or, if the remaining teeth are too weak to support a conventional removable partial, it is an excellent choice.

These pictures show an upper Cu-Sil partial made for a patient who has only two remaining upper teeth. The denture is made with traditional full denture retention properties, and is held in place with suction, similar to any full denture. The silicone collars around the teeth preserve the suction of the appliance, and they also provide a little bit of retention. If the remaining teeth later need to be extracted, they can be added into the denture for a minimal cost. |

Advantages of the Cu-Sil Partial
- There is much less stress on the remaining teeth than with a traditional partial, which prolongs their life.
- When careful attention has been paid to the esthetics of the appliance, the appearance is very natural. The absence of clasps helps the esthetics.
- It is even a little more secure than a traditional complete denture because it is stabilized to a degree by the remaining teeth.
- Leaving the natural teeth in place helps prevent bone resorption and facial collapse.
Cu-Sil® is a registered trademark, and a dental laboratory has to purchase a license in order to make these partials. Their website has a list of licensed dental laboratories.
